Day 4: Hitting a High Note…

Activity 2, playing games

the name of the game that I liked the best.

Name: Horohopu - Taonga Tākaro (Traditional Māori Game)

purpose of the game: Throw and catch the Poi Toa from one team member to another to advance towards the scoring zone.
Catch the Poi Toa in the scoring zone to score points.
1st team to a set amount of points or most points after set time wins.

2 rules:
Person in possession of the Poi Toa MUST KEEP IT SPINNING at all times.

If the Poi Toa touches the ground, stops spinning, a player walks while in possession of the Poi Toa, or takes too long to pass it. A penalty can occur (Kaiwawao (referee) discretion).

  1. Hi James

This sounds like a really good game to play. It would be really hard to catch the poi, you would really have to concentrate on it hard.

Have you played this game before?

This would be a really good game to play at school. Maybe you could teach your class to play it.

    Good work James

    Until next time

    Allie :)
